Chiminea

Jenny and I have been thinking about getting a chiminea since last year (and, honestly, I’ve been thinking about it for quite a bit more 🙂 ).  I had been to a few parties where people had them, and I liked them.  Jenny came with me to at least one or two of those parties, and she liked them, too.

A few months ago, we had our Japanese Maple limbed (linky#1, linky#2) to remove some limbs that had died for unknown reasons.   Our friendly neighborhood tree trimmers/landscapers asked if I’d like the limbs cut for firewood, and I said yes, and mentioned that we were planning to get an outdoor fireplace of some sort.  They did a beautiful job of cutting the wood into small chunks, and stacked it in sections of kindling through the thickest pieces.  They are awesome.

Today, on my way home, I stopped quickly at a local greenhouse to see what sort of flower bulbs they had.  We have some nice beds in front of our house, but we wanted some fill-in flowers.  We also wanted to increase our tulip collection.  This place had great bulbs, so I bought a bunch and a sack of bone meal.  While there, I also noticed that they had chimineas.  I liked what I saw, so I picked a nice clay one, and into the car it went with the bulbs.

I’m still working on recovering from a cold earlier this week, which was the entire reason I left work early to come home to finish the day.  I unloaded the car when I got home and got back online to finish work.

Tonight, Jenny helped me get the chiminea in order, and we’re now sitting outside having a little fire.  It is pleasant.  People driving by in the cross-street to the alley probably think that we’re nuts–there’s two people sitting around a fire with laptops.  Hah.  Anyway, it’s a good night, and I think it is a fitting tribute to our tree (which looks to be staying strong, thankfully!) that it is giving us further enjoyment and keeping us warm on a chilly evening.  I enjoyed the shade of the tree earlier, and now we’re enjoying some of its light.  Nice.

Jonathan does a lot of stuff. If you ask Jenny, maybe he does too much stuff.
