Pittsburgh Skyline Gigapan, First Take

Jenny and I did the Cystic Fibrosis walk a few weeks ago.  It was a sunny Thursday evening, and the light was turning pretty on the buildings down on the North Shore. We were finished, and she agreed with my suggestion that we go up on Mt. Washington to try to grab a few pictures of the city with PrettyEveningLighting.  We arrived a little later than I had hoped, but I still got a few good shots. While there, I decided to try a Gigapan-style panorama.  With 200mm at f/2.8, I figured I would have a decent shot at it, even handheld.  Above is the result. Next time, I’m definitely going to have support with me. I’d love to try one of these at night and stitch the whole thing together, just to see how that works. There are at least two mistakes in here that I can see, where the Photoshop photomerge looked like it guessed two edges poorly.  Other than that, I’m pretty happy with it. Next time, I’ll get more shots (and with support!).

Check out the giant version here (note that the giant version isn’t even full-sized–it was just too huge to process easily!).

Jonathan does a lot of stuff. If you ask Jenny, maybe he does too much stuff.
