Poor technical score: Your bits are showing!

Yeah, I broke all kinds of things when I moved the blog around and re-organized things.  One of those things was the RSS feed, which is used in news readers and in all sorts of places where I might want to have this content re-posted.  One of those places that used it was my Facebook profile.  While mucking-about with the new blog, I decided to move the feed to FeedBurner.  This gives me stats on what content is being read, what time people read things, and gives me the ability to change the feed source without having to update the feed address (or causing people to lose the feed because I somehow changed the address or content on them).  When I did that, though, I plugged the wrong source feed data into FeedBurner, giving them a data source that was slightly outdated and didn’t have all of the metadata that FeedBurner and other readers use to help organize and date stories in the feed.

The biggest problem with all of this, of course, was that every time I posted a new story here, Facebook would helpfully post the new story, plus six previous entries.  It would helpfully post them in reverse date order, such that the oldest entry ended up on top of my profile.  This confused lots of people, made my wife upset that some old entries kept getting reposted, and generally made me look incompetent.  My bits were showing, and it wasn’t a pretty picture.

Now, finally, this should be fixed.  There might be one wave of slightly older content that hits Facebook and some other spots because I had to tell FeedBurner to re-sync the feed from scratch.  Hopefully, though, we’ll be back up and running normally now.  Thanks for your patience, sorry for the trouble.

Jonathan does a lot of stuff. If you ask Jenny, maybe he does too much stuff.
