“Take Me to the River”
So I took this photo at work today with my phone. I wanted to show everyone how last night’s rain made the Allegheny into the muddy, muddy Allegheny.
I could write a blues song:
I’m gonna cry my sorrows into the muddy, muddy Allegheny. The river will take me away. Ever since baby done me wrong . . .
Last fall my employer remodeled our space to make it more “open.” They turned my managers’ corner offices into “collaboration areas” for all to enjoy. As a plus, I have more access to river views. As a minus, my managers all sit directly across the aisle from me now. I can’t stare at the river all day. As I yearn to do.
See where the Allegheny disappears on the upper right side of this shot? That’s the direction of home.
This is the river that sustains my towns – both of my towns. The town where I work and the town where I live.
We’re not the only ones this river sustains. Tonight as Jonathan and I read in our backyard, four or five large birds circled over us. Raptors. (Thank St. Francis that we kept the cat inside!) They all flew towards the river.
Our river.
Their river.
