Photos for sale (in case you’re bored)
I have been playing with Apple’s Aperture software a lot lately. Aperture is a photo management package that implements a feature-rich library management system and some nice tools for white balance, color correction, cropping, basic retouching, and a slew of other photo editing actions. It isn’t Photoshop, but does not pretend to be. I needed a great library management package, and really wanted something to make it fast and easy to import, modify, and manage RAW format photos. Aperture does all that, and I really love how fast it works and how easy it is to make one change and copy it to a whole set of photos (common practice for getting a good white balance on a set of pictures taken in the same environment).
While looking today at a plug-in that helps with uploading sets of photos to the Gallery software that we run here for our photo galleries, I stumbled upon another plug-in for a service called PrintRoom. PrintRoom allows one to put up for sale a set of pictures, and make them available in a variety of formats.
I decided to give this a shot, and to post to the site some of our favorite pictures. If you’re interested, take a look at our PrintRoom site to see what we have and the different formats that are available. And, of course, if you have special requests, just let me know and I can get them posted there for your perusal.
One of the neat features of PrintRoom is that the prints you get back are on actual heavy photo paper stock, and look and feel like photos from a lab (in fact, they are from a lab, but use a different printing process). Jenny and I have used similar services at places like Ritz Camera to get photo-quality prints of some of our digital pictures for framing and to give as gifts. They also offer other media, such as coffee mugs, greeting cards, etc. On top of that, if we’ve photographed an event of yours and you want access to those pictures so that you can order sets of prints, we can set up private galleries on the site so that you can order full sets of pictures, kind-of like a regular photo service.
Anyway, long story short, take a look and maybe order a print or two. Any profit will be going toward the sailboat fund. 🙂
