House and Home

The floor is crap

Apparently, someone else had issues with the floor in there at one point, and replaced it with a plywood floor.  It isn’t bad plywood, but it is still plywood.  Interestingly, whoever did this put a finish of some sort around the outside two feet or so of floor, which makes it look like they had some type of carpet in there in the middle of the floor, and this finished plywood stuff around the outside.

So now Jenny and I are considering our options, and thinking about one of those snap-together laminate flooring things.  I’m going to price one out right now.  The room is only about 250 sq. feet, so that isn’t too bad.

Jonathan does a lot of stuff. If you ask Jenny, maybe he does too much stuff.

Costco, down at the waterfront, just got in a nice new laminate flooring that’s very affordable, has an underlayment attached to supposedly give it a more realistic wood feel/sound. I was mooning over the new hand-scraped chestnut finished one yesterday.

    Maybe it’s worth a look?

(Disclaimer: I do work for Costco – but not in marketing/sales or anything like that. I should also confess that I just love Costco, but that has little to do with working for them.)

I looked at Costco and Lowes. We ended up going with a real wood floor, at about double the price of the laminate. After all of the meticulous work to get the wood parts to look good in the living room, we just couldn’t bring ourselves to do the laminate flooring in the dining room. Updated blog post coming soon! 🙂 Thanks for the lead on the flooring, too–I’ll probably be checking them out to see what else they have.
