WE ARE FINALLY PAINTING!!!
It is a thrilling feeling to be at this stage. It has been almost a year that we’ve been working on this room. Of course, there were large sections of time when we weren’t actively working on it, but our downstairs has been a construction zone for eleven (11) months. Ugh.
Today, with my Dad’s help, we actually got ourselves ahead of schedule for completion of the room. I figured that we would probably get finished with the shellacking today, and maybe have enough time to tape-off the wood after the shellac was dry enough. I hoped to be able to patch the walls and basically be ready for painting tomorrow. Well, we moved so quickly today that we were able to get primer on everything! My Dad had been saying all day that he couldn’t wait to see paint on the walls, and Jenny and I couldn’t agree more. Well, we got to the point where we could make it happen, so we did. This means that we’ll be ready for final painting tomorrow! Highly awesome. That’s all I can say.
Thanks Mom and Dad. And thank you Jenny–you keep me inspired and moving. 🙂

It looks awesome guys! Can’t wait to see how the paint looks in there! It’s a lot of work; don’t you guys feel so productive and satisfied? I love that feeling…

Jonathan – thanks so much for the tip about Mars Lumber. I’ll definitely check them out before getting too committed to the paint grade pine. So far I’ve only put in base pieces and I wouldn’t cry too much if I had to take them back off and make bird houses out of it.
Congratulations on making so much progress today! I signed up with movable type so I’d be able to say how happy we are for you two. You guys have already TOTALLY transformed that room! I think I’m suffering from “trim envy” – it looks so great now. Can’t wait to see the final paint. Good luck tomorrow!

Thank you! We got the first coat on everything today. The walls will need a second coat. I’ll have an update and some new pictures online shortly. Good luck with your trim! It seems like it took forever to get that paint off of our woodwork, but we’re so glad we did it.
