Adventures in Arizona, Part Null

Well, I tried to go somewhere today after class.  I had a plan.  I was going to the Sonora Desert National Monument.  This National Monument is run by the Bureau of Land Management.  There are no fees, and none of the information said anything about specific closing times.  It was even pretty close to the hotel.  Woo hoo!

On my way out, I was already starting to get a bad feeling about the trip.  I’m not sure why, but it just wasn’t feeling right.  The scenery on the way out there was awesome, though.  I had decided to take a road that cut right through the middle of the park.  About half-way into the park, I realized that this was probably even more undeveloped than the website said it was.  There were a few entry roads, some of which clearly required something more robust than a Corolla (actually, they could probably use a well-equipped jeep with a winch).  Other than the entry sign and the occasional “don’t drive here when it floods,” “this area subject to flash floods,” “floods are bad, yo, don’t be standin’ there,” and “state property–no trespassing” signs, there were no markings.  I didn’t have a good map of the area, and I wasn’t sure exactly where I could find one.

To make that long story shorter:  I ended up not taking any pictures, getting a little freaked-out at the sixth area I tried that ended in a no trespassing sign or a road requiring a rock crawler, and turned around to come back to the hotel.  The drive was fun, though, so that was cool.

I suppose I should pack, and get to sleep.  My flight leaves waaaaay too early tomorrow.  Bleh.

Jonathan does a lot of stuff. If you ask Jenny, maybe he does too much stuff.
