My first clock

I finished putting the finish on the new clock for Jenny. The clock isn’t perfect, but I know what I’d need to do to make it better next time. I built this to try a few things, and to show Jenny the fun stuff that I can do with the tools that she has bought for me and let me buy for myself.

The wood is simple red oak. The clock mechanism is from Michaels (a craft supply store). The finish on the majority of the clock is four coats of tung oil. The clock face board is red oak finished with a “deep red mahogany” stain so that the face is set off from the rest of the clock. I used rare earth magnets for the closures on both the front and back doors. The doors have small brass screws that mate with the magnets.

Fun stuff. Next project: A much larger and more detailed wall clock. Woo hoo!

Jonathan does a lot of stuff. If you ask Jenny, maybe he does too much stuff.
